Christina Grant in her science classroomSWMHS Science Teacher CHRISTINA GRANT has been nominated for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).

Christina teaches biology, chemistry, and physical science at SouthWest Metro Intermediate District's ALC - also known as SouthWest Metro High School.

She has been teaching with the ALC since she graduated college in 2002. "I always knew it was in me to teach at an ALC," she says. She wanted to be able to have an impact on the students by giving the attention and education that they deserve while helping students realize "the great gifts they have within them".

Growing up on a farm, she always had a great interest in nature and the process of life, leading her to study and get her degree in biology. With women also being a minority in the field of science, she wanted to take on the challenge to bring a fresh perspective. She frequently incorporates women in science in her classroom, to encourage students to see the subject in an alternate lens.

Christina is an asset to SouthWest Metro and we are excited to see her move forward in this honorable national recognition this spring.
