It Takes a Village

It Takes a Village

Mike and his daughter stand together outside of the River Valley building in the sunshine."They say it takes a village to raise a child, but for a special needs child - it takes a whole city."

Mike's daughter has been enrolled at River Valley Education Center for two years, learning important life skills like cooking alongside her regular curriculum.

"River Valley has been wonderful and it's been great for my daughter. It's been a great experience here. They wear their hearts huge."

After trying several different schools, Mike's daughter finally found her place at River Valley Education Center. Here, she gets the attention she needs in order to succeed in her classes, practice emotional coping and social skills, as well as learn other necessities like cooking and nutrition. She works closely with School Social Worker Ana Podratz to creatively approach each week's lessons with productivity and positivity.

SouthWest Metro is overwhelmingly pleased to provide a safe educational space to Mike's daughter and all of our students, as well as support parents with any questions or concerns about their child with special needs.
