Autism Programs

Although staff in all of our programs have the training and skills to work effectively with students with autism, several programs are specifically designed to address the needs of students on the autism spectrum.

RISE (Reaching Independence through Structured Environments)
River Valley Education Center, Jordan
Includes students from kindergarten through high school with significant challenges communicating their needs and wants and regulating their emotions and behaviors. They have very significant learning challenges with academics and social skills. Students who are high-school-aged may be in the community-based RISE program located at the Shakopee Town Square Mall.

ASD Middle School
River Valley Education Center, Jordan
Provides students in grades 5-8 with academic and social skills instruction. These students may have average or above-average learning potential but have been unsuccessful in other special education settings because of their difficulty organizing themselves and managing their own behavior.

ASD High School
Shakopee Town Square
Students in grades 9-12 practice social and problem-solving skills in the community and prepare for post-high-school life by exploring interests and strengths in the broader context of adult expectations.

ASD Transition (T5)
Shakopee Town Square
Students, aged 18-21, who have not graduated high school and continue to have special education needs. This program is highly individualized and provides support for students who are accessing post-secondary learning options, entering the job market, and/ or making the transition from home to independent or semi-independent living.
