 THURSDAY, MARCH 7, 2019UNDERSTANDING FASD MAKES A DIFFERENCE Presented by Shauna Feine, Proof Alliance | 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM | LOCATION: 401 East 4th Street, Chaska | Free for SWMetro staff & member districts. It is estimated that as many as one in 20 U.S. children has a fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). FASD is a medical condition that encompasses a wide range of physical, neurobehavioral, and cognitive symptoms associated with prenatal alcohol exposure. This presentation will provide an overview of the basics of FASD, discuss common traits and behaviors associated with prenatal alcohol exposure, and how those symptoms may cause challenges for children and adolescents with an FASD, as well as, for professionals supporting them. Lastly, we will explore interventions and strategies to effectively support students on the fetal alcohol spectrum to promote successful outcomes.  

 

 FRIDAY, MARCH 22, 2019 | MY CULTURE, YOUR CULTURE Presented by Regina Seabrook, MN Equity Alliance | 8:30 AM - 11:00 AM | River Valley Education Center Multi-purpose Room, 100 Hope Avenue, Jordan | $10/person - open to social workers, light breakfast provided; learn about frameworks and continuums of difference. What is the difference between deep vs. surface culture? What are the conflict and work styles based on cultural responses and norms. And finally, how can we, as social workers, communicate and respond best when working with families of varying cultural backgrounds. Meets two CE hours towards social work ethics content recertification hours. CEUs given.
